Seeing the Chinese Space Program cooperating with the Russians and then now the Russians cooperating with the European Space Agency makes me think about a Global Space Agency. Why not? We our going to be recovering economically from the Bush Administration for quite a while and our Space Programs will probably slowly die due to lack of funding one by one as other national needs arise. Why not just make this a global effort now, while we have so much to offer. What better goal to help unite and demystify relations between nations than to work together to explore space.

THE BUSH SPACE INITIATIVE
•Spend $12 billion on new space exploration plan over next five years. $1bn will be new money, the rest reallocated from existing NASA programs.
•Retire shuttle program by 2010
•Develop new manned exploration vehicle
•Launch manned mission to moon between 2015 and 2020
•Build permanent lunar base as "stepping stone" for more ambitious missions
•Complete commitments to International Space Station by 2010

Has any president's plans been as ambitious as Bush's, since, say, Kennedy?

I agree. Very ambitious. The plan is wonderful, but I don't see the United States having the money to pull it off. International cooperation would alleviate that economic burden substantially.

No doubt. The world community's help would be nice in all sorts of ways.

How are you doing otherwise, old buddy?

I'm doing well. (especially in relation to those around me) New Orleans is not getting better very fast. It initially jumped back in the Quarter and a few other areas, but the progress just seemed to stop there. Only 20% of the restaurants are open. Groceries are no where to be found without a 30 minute drive. (and those are absolutely packed with people) My neighbor (the other half of my double) still does not have gas yet. Landlords are going absolutely nutso with raising rent when they can. Many of my friends here are having to move in with each other. My rent is only the same because my lease doesn't expire until April. Anyway, wahhhh, wahhh. Like I said. I am doing well.

You know, I should take it upon myself and visit the region. I haven't been since 1989, and I think that airfares are pretty low now, no?
